Dubuque, IA – UnityPoint Health emergency department and urgent care locations are seeing a marked increase in the number of asymptomatic patients seeking COVID-19 tests on a walk-in basis. UnityPoint Health does not offer COVID-19 testing on a walk-in basis. Instead, UnityPoint Health provides testing, if clinically appropriate, when caring for patients who visit our facilities to seek treatment for upper respiratory symptoms.
People without symptoms (asymptomatic) or those with mild upper respiratory symptoms should obtain an at-home COVID-19 test through state testing, their county public health department, or through a local pharmacy or retailer. Those who get a positive result with a home test do not need to visit an urgent care or emergency department to have their positive test result confirmed with further testing.
Individuals with moderate to severe COVID-19 symptoms should schedule an appointment with their primary care provider or visit an urgent care. Many urgent cares offer online reservations through our website, unitypoint.org.
Anyone with difficulty breathing, pain in their chest or other serious symptoms should go to the emergency department or call 911.
COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective in preventing serious illness and death. UnityPoint Health continues to urge all individuals age 5 and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible as well as those ages 12+ to receive their booster.
