Dubuque, IA (October 21, 2021) – For the fourth time, UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital has earned The Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center Certification for making exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes. The award, offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, signals the quality of care at Finley Hospital meets the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
Eligibility for Primary Stroke Center certifications include: a dedicated stroke-focused program; staffing by qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care; individualized care to meet stroke patients’ needs, patient involvement in their hospital care; coordination of post-discharge patient self-care based on recommendations of the Brain Attack Coalition and guidelines published by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association or equivalent guidelines; streamlined flow of patient information while protecting patient rights, security and privacy; collection of the hospital’s stroke-treatment performance data; hospital team performance data; and use of data to access and continually improve quality of care for stroke patients.
Together, The Joint Commission, the American Heart Association, and the American Stroke Association help organizations provide more comprehensive and appropriate care for patients at Certified Primary Stroke Centers. The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification Program, launched in December 2003, was developed in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Certification is available only to programs in Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospitals.
