We need your help to ensure that any tax bill passed this session implements and funds Iowa’s Natural Resources & Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.
This program was passed by a referendum of all Iowa voters in November of 2010, and created a fund dedicated to addressing water quality, natural resource protection and enhancement, and developing recreational amenities for Iowans. However, in order to fund the program Iowa must raise sales tax by one cent, which triggers the diversion of 3/8ths of that cent to the NR&OR Trust Fund. We believe that the innovative strategy of repealing and replacing the Local Option Sales Tax, which will hold local governments harmless, is a uniquely effective way to achieve this goal.
Furthermore, we see the investment that will come as a result of the implementation of the fund as positive for workforce attraction and retention. Particularly in the tri-state region where recreation, trails, and the outdoors are key factors in tourism and talent attraction.
To support achieving this goal, we need you to take action today!
