League’s leading scorer posts five points in win over Chicago Friday

CHICAGO — Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Stephen Halliday has captured USHL Forward of the Week
honors for the second time this season. The Ohio State commit and fourth-year USHL forward posted five
points in a 7-3 win over the Chicago Steel on Friday night to earn the distinction.
Halliday helped open the scoring for the Fighting Saints on Friday with a primary assist on a Nikita
Borodayenko goal, added a goal in the second period, and then took the game over in the third period.
He scored two goals to complete his first USHL hat trick, and he notched a primary assist on Mikey
Burchill’s goal to cap the scoring.
The five points in that game moved Halliday to the top of the USHL scoring leaderboard. He is currently
tied with Chicago Steel forward Jackson Blake for the top spot in the league in points. His 17 assists rank
fifth in the league, and his 15 goals are good for second-most in the league. Just three players in the USHL
have 30 or more points, and just 17 players in the USHL have 10 or more goals.
The Glenwood, Maryland native has scored 118 points in 118 games as a Fighting Saint. He sits 13 points
behind Seamus Malone for the second-most points in the Saints’ Tier I history, and just 39 points away
from Steve MacSwain for the Fighting Saints’ all-time scoring lead. Across 173 games in the USHL, Halliday
has scored 152 points in 173 games (48 goals, 104 assists).
Before entering the USHL as the first overall pick in Phase I of the 2018 USHL Draft, Halliday played for the
prestigious Toronto Marlboros of the GTHL. He earned USHL All-Academic Team honors after the 2019–
20 season. This is the second time in Halliday’s career that he has earned Forward of the Week honors, as
he did during Week 7 of the 2021–22 season.
