DUBUQUE, Iowa – After a decade and a half of owning and operating the Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel and Conference Center in Dubuque, IA, Frontier Hospitality Group (FHG) announced the sale today of the hotel to Marvel Hotels, LLC. The timing of the sale was opportune for FHG, as the company has many changes on the horizon, including plans to continue to build new hotels in Eastern Iowa, Western Illinois and beyond.

It is a bittersweet end of an era for FHG. The decision to sell one of the company’s well- established hotels was not easy, as the past 15 years running the hotel have been filled with cherished memories, “For more than four decades the Dubuque Hotel, formerly known as the Midway Motor Lodge, has been a place where memories have been made, special occasions have been celebrated, and friendships forged,” says Dan Huber, CEO and Co-Owner of FHG. The sale of the hotel marks the end of FHG’s 72-year history of owning and operating a Best Western branded hotel. FHG sold the Best Western Plus SteepleGate Inn in Davenport, IA this past June.

FHG is grateful the new ownership, Marvel Hotels, will be retaining all current staff at present wage rates and comparable benefits, and continue to operate the hotel with the same name, Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel & Conference Center. The company met with hotel staff today to answer any questions regarding the sale and to exchange parting words, “Our thoughts are those of gratitude for the thousands of employees and guests who have made the Dubuque Hotel a special place. We also wish the new owners much success in building upon the Dubuque hotel legacy,” said Huber.

FHG just completed the full remodeling of all 150 guest rooms and has made other significant investments in the Dubuque Hotel. In fact, during the fifteen years of owning the hotel most of the hotel was renovated at least twice.

The sale of the hotel will not impact Old Chicago Restaurant and Bar which is owned and operated by ROC Taproom. Old Chicago will remain a tenant and their restaurant and banquet operations will be uninterrupted.

FHG has averaged the development of one new hotel every 18 months since 2014. Frontier continues to own and operate the Holiday Inn Express in Moline, IL; the Holiday Inn Express in East Peoria, IL; the Home2 Suites in Bettendorf, IA; the Cambria Hotel in Bettendorf, IA and the Residence Inn in East Peoria, IL.

FHG plans to build a Courtyard by Marriott in Bettendorf, immediately north of the Home2 Suites in Bettendorf, IA beginning later this year. More details will be announced this fall. “We have big plans for our future in hospitality as we build upon a tremendous legacy,” says Huber.
