FIVE FLAGS CENTER – The Five Flags Center, Dubuque’s entertainment destination, will play host to a concert featuring country music stars Clay Walker and Tracy Lawrence on Thursday, May 20, the venue announced this morning. Tickets for the Clay Walker-Tracy Lawrence concert will go on sale Friday, March 26 at 10:00 AM through the Five Flags Box Office and online via FiveFlagsCenter.com. Presale details have already been sent to members of the Five Flags Email Club and will be posted to the venue’s social media channels later in the week.
Clay Walker and Tracy Lawrence have both been regulars on country radio since the early 1990s and have only sustained their success in the succeeding decades. The two have combined for more than a dozen #1 hits on the Billboard country music charts while racking up more than 12 million album sales. Additional information about each performer is below. This will be the first time either singer has appeared at Five Flags Center.
About Clay Walker:
Clay Walker is a recording artist, songwriter, and entertainer with 31 charted singles, a dozen No. 1s, four platinum albums, and decades of performances to his credit. Titles spanning 15 years and still receiving strong airplay include “Live Until I Die,” "Dreaming With My Eyes Open," “This Woman And This Man,” "Hypnotize The Moon," "Rumor Has It," “Then What,” “The Chain Of Love," "I Can't Sleep," and "She Won't Be Lonely Long." His latest single, “Need a Bar Sometimes,” is currently rising on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
Walker's still robust touring schedule – 80 shows in 2019 – continues to fuel interest in his releases, most recently the 76-song compilation Clay Walker – The Complete Albums 1993-2002. Among them is the chart-topper "If I Could Make A Living," which recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of reaching its airplay peak, despite its singer showing no slippage in his celebrated matinee idol looks and megawatt smile. Meanwhile, Walker's native Texas continues to be a centerpiece, whether it's performing the National Anthem at the 2019 World Series in Houston, or giving back at February 2020's Basin Strong concert benefiting victims and families of the recent shootings in Odessa.
As his career has progressed, Walker has embraced the changes within country music by working with many of the format’s top songwriters. Often overlooked in Walker's career has been the balance he's had between writing his own material – much of it solo, including many of his biggest hits – and recording undeniable songs from outside writers.
About Tracy Lawrence:
Like Walker, Tracy Lawrence has worn many hats in his three-plus decades in country music, working as a songwriter and producer in addition to his singing and performing. Lawrence has been performing since the age of 15 and signed his first record deal at just 23 years old. His debut album, 1991’s ‘Sticks and Stones,’ reached the top ten of the Country Albums chart while achieving platinum certification and launching a quartet of top ten singles: “Today’s Lonely Fool,” “Runnin’ Behind,” “Somebody Paints the Wall,” and the title track, which became Lawrence’s first #1 single. The strength of the record led Lawrence to be named the Top New Male Vocalist by both Billboard and the Academy of Country Music.
Lawrence’s sophomore effort, 1993’s ‘Alibis,’ was even more successful. It sold more than two million copies in the US alone and cracked the top five on the country albums chart, while reaching #25 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums ranking. The record spurred four more chart-topping singles, including the title track and “If the Good Die Young,” which has become one of Lawrence’s signature songs.
While much of Lawrence’s chart success came in the 1990s, he saw a career resurgence in the mid-2000s. 2003’s “Paint Me a Birmingham” marked his return to the Top 5 on the country singles chart and continues to enjoy strong radio airplay nearly two decades later. Then in 2007, Lawrence returned to the top of the chart with “Find Out Who Your Friends Are,” which featured Lawrence’s longtime friends and collaborators, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney. In addition to its chart success, the song also earned Lawrence Vocal Event of the Year awards from both the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music in 2007.
In all, 13 of Lawrence’s albums have reached the top 20, including a pair of compilations of his hits. He’s also been a mainstay on the country singles charts, with a total of eight #1s and 22 top ten tracks.
