Finley Hospital’s Outpatient Therapy Now Certified in Program Helping Those with Parkinson’s Disease

Dubuque, IA— UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital Outpatient Physical Therapy is now offering LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD programs to help individuals suffering from Parkinson’s disease. This program is the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) and is an intensive exercise and patient empowerment program designed to improve speech production and volume and increase motor movements.

Through the LSVT BIG program, patients work with certified physical and occupational therapists to improve function and slow motor deterioration. Patients in the LSVT BIG program may achieve increased walking speed and bigger steps, larger rotational movements and improved balance.

Through the LSVT LOUD program, patient work with a certified speech therapist to improve voice and speech. Patients in the LSVT LOUD program may achieve increased loudness of speech and rate of speech, more varied facial expressions, advancements in swallowing, improvement of precise and clear speech sounds and intonation (up and down) of the voice.

Those who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease are encouraged to talk with their primary care provider regarding Parkinson’s Disease therapy treatment with LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD. A provider referral for physical, occupational and speech therapy are required.
