Executive Producer of PBS Series "Craft in America" to Speak in Dubuque on August 26
August 13, 2018 (DUBUQUE, IA) – The Dubuque Museum of Art (DuMA) has announced a talk by nationally-recognized filmmaker, educator, and entrepreneur Carol Sauvion.
Sauvion is founder of Craft in America, a national non-profit organization, and creator and producer of the Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award- winning documentary series "Craft in America", which has aired on PBS since 2007.
Sauvion's talk on Sunday, August 26, 2018 is being held in conjunction with the DuMA's current exhibition, Handmade Craft Invitational.
"We are thrilled that Carol is coming to Dubuque and visiting our region, which is rich in craft traditions," said David Schmitz, executive director. "It wouldn't have happened without the efforts of exhibition curator Stacy Peterson and our museum educator, Margaret Buhr."
According to the producers, "Craft in America explores America’s creative spirit through the language and traditions of the handmade. [The series] will take you on a journey to the artists, origins and techniques of American craft."
In Los Angeles, Sauvion also serves as executive director of the Craft in America Center, a library and gallery offering exhibitions and educational programs, and has operated Freehand, a gallery specializing in functional craft, for 37 years.
Sauvion's talk will focus on trends in American craft and the artists who bring it to life. The free program begins at 1 pm in the Museum lobby.
Handmade Craft Invitational continues through September 9, 2018.
