Art 4 Us and The Glass House to partner on event space on Central Ave

Dubuque Main Street (DMS) is pleased to announce the winner of the Dubuque Open 4 Business Grant Competition. Art 4 Us, a local artist agency and creative consultancy, won for their art gallery, event space, and art incubator expansion. This initiative is a partnership between Art 4 Us and Glasshouse Recording Studio, located on Central Avenue. Open 4 Business is a statewide competitive grant in partnership with Main Street Iowa’s “Open 4 Business” initiative which supports business expansions and development in Iowa’s Main Street communities.

Art 4 Us Owner Briana Thompson highlighted the need for culturally diverse, affordable event space in Dubuque. The partnership between Art 4 Us and Glass House Recording Studio will bring together two entities committed to fostering creativity, diversity, and community empowerment with a space located at 1826 Central Ave.

In addition to advancing to the statewide Open 4 Us grant competition, the project will receive $500 from Dubuque Main Street. Thompson’s proposal was one of 13 submitted to DMS and advanced to Dubuque’s top 5. If the Dubuque winner is chosen as the state’s top five, the collaborative partners will advance to round three on August 1, 2024, in conjunction with the Iowa Downtown Conference in Cedar Rapids, for the chance to be awarded an additional $20,000. 

Through Main Street Iowa, the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) will award tens of thousands of dollars to five Main Street programs around the state. “Art 4 Us has continuously demonstrated their ability to elevate culture across the city. They have consistently brought events downtown with a unique style at a high level of professionalism, over the last 18 months. In addition, Glass House Studios has experienced substantial growth in as many years. We are thrilled with the project proposal and their desire to grow into a larger and permanent downtown location,” said Danielle Jacobs, Executive Director of DMS.
