Celebrate the Sounds and Sights of the Season with Holiday Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides!
PLATTEVILLE, Wis., Nov. 1, 2021 — What do the winter holidays sound like to you? Cold weather brings the sounds of zipping coats, squeaking rubber boots, and a crackling fire. The season brings favorite music and movies, carols and carolers, carriage rides and the rhythmic cadence of hooves and jingle bells. Platteville’s hometown holiday theme this year it is “Celebrating the Sounds of the Season,” and The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums are ready to support Hometown Friday Nights again this year the first three Fridays of December, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, from 4-8 p.m., with Holiday Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides.
All are invited to delight in the holiday spirit with horse-drawn carriage rides through downtown Platteville! Enjoy the scenery and holiday lights while learning about local history and landmarks with the sights and sounds of a beautiful team of draft horses. Rides will depart from The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums regularly between 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Shop in the Museum Store before or after your ride. This year, for the health and safety of our guests, face coverings are requested, and each carriage is reserved for a single party of up to 10 people. Cost is $120 per Carriage (up to 10 people per carriage). Early Bird special rate of $100 for first two tours of each day. Advance registration is required. Register online at www.mining.jamison.museum/programs or by calling (608) 348-3301.
The carriage rides are a complement to a variety of holiday offerings made by many Platteville organizations and businesses. City Park will look festive as the Platteville Kiwanis Club decorates the gazebo with lights and an evergreen tree, the Veterans Honor Roll Committee illuminates the park’s memorial statues, and City Hall will be trimmed with lights. These new illuminations will add fresh interest to the carriage rides this year. “We are delighted that the annual Holiday Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides have become a highlight of Platteville Hometown Friday Nights,” said Museum Director Erik Flesch. “Not only is this an important year-end fundraiser for the museum, but also this cultural event is an attraction for our community that celebrates the connections between Platteville’s downtown and its rural landscape.”
