HF506: Increasing funding for the Workforce Housing Tax Credit Program
According to a study done by Greater Dubuque Development and the City of Dubuque, our community is around 1,100 units below where we need to be in order to grow and meet workforce demands. Our homeowner vacancy rate is 0.5% or about half that of the U.S. average, and our rental vacancy rate is 1.5%, or nearly four times lower than the national average. The workforce housing credit is a key tool to filling that gap.
We remain undecided on this legislation but believe the portion that increases funding for the WHTC program is important to growing housing stock in Iowa and Dubuque.
ASK: Hold a subcommittee on HF506 to discuss the funding increase to the program, and merits of Section 2 related to maximum average dwelling unit cost.
Please take a moment to write an email to our legislators in support of funding for the Workforce Housing Tax Credit program using the below template. Remember to share your own personal story!
Rep. Bobby Kaufmann

Dear Chair Kaufmann,
I’m emailing to voice my support for increasing funding for the workforce housing tax credit program.
Dubuque alone is around 1,100 units short of where we need to be to sustain growth into the future according to a study completed by the City and Greater Dubuque Development Corporation. Our vacancy rate for homeownership and rentals are lower than the national average and are causing prices to go up, while new residents struggle to find a place to live.
The workforce housing tax credit program is a key tool to solving this issue by directly supporting housing projects that meet the needs of working Iowan’s and their families.
Please consider holding a subcommittee on HF506 to further the discussion of additional funding for the credit.
Sincerely,
xxx
