SF 526: Port Authorities

The proposed adjustments to existing port authority rules would create a new economic development tool that better facilitates multijurisdictional projects. We strongly support any effort to promote new or improved tools for the economic developers toolbox.

Dear Majority Leader Whitver,

SF526 would adjust Iowa’s existing “Port Authority” law, and make it easier for multiple municipalities or counties to enter into agreements on multijurisdictional projects. This is just another tool in the economic developers toolbox, and one that requires no additional revenues or funding to implement.

I hope SF526 has the opportunity to receive a vote and pass the Senate this year!

This legislation creates additional tools in the toolbox for economic development, without additional levies or fees to implement. Projects involving the heritage trail or implementation of the countywide parks master plan in Dubuque could potentially benefit from this legislation.
