HF 412: Related to authorizing establishment of self-supported entertainment areas
The Iowa Chamber Alliance 2023 Talent Poll found that 45% of Iowan’s view the entertainment options in Iowa as inferior to those in other states. The poll also found that those who have considered leaving are the most likely to view Iowa’s entertainment options negatively. Allowing cities, through petition of property owners, to institute an entertainment district to reinvest in key cultural amenities is a powerful tool. It would help communities like Dubuque reinvest into key hubs of activity and elevate the entertainment options for our residents.
ASK: Support and pass SF309/HF412
Please take a moment to send emails out to key legislators for this bill. Don't forget to provide your own personal touch or story relating to the need for more entertainment options!
Rep. Gary Mohr

Dear Chair Mohr,
HF412 would allow cities to create entertainment districts, subject to a petition by local property owners, which would support reinvestment into quality of life amenities.
According to the Iowa Chamber Alliance 2023 Talent Poll, 45% of Iowan’s viewed the entertainment options in our state as inferior to those in other states. Among those who considered leaving the state in the near future, that number was even higher.
We must help communities put more tools in the tool box to support amenity development not based solely on property tax revenue.
Please ensure HF412 can be approved by the appropriations committee and sent to the floor for a vote.
Sincerely,
xxx
