Charity Kickball Tournament hoping to Raise $20,000 for Families to Escape Domestic Violence and Follow a Path to Homeownership

DUBUQUE, IA – A local kickball tournament’s goal is to raise funds to help families leave domestic violence situations, become financially stable, and ultimately, find housing and support themselves.

A local real estate firm, along with other sponsors, is hosting a charity kickball tournament (details below) where all proceeds benefit a collaboration of non-profits who work in concert to aid these families in different steps of their journey. The organizations who benefit include Friends of the Family, The Circles Initiative, and Dubuque/Jackson Co Habitat for Humanity.

This is the third year of the tournament. The first two years raised $11,000 but organizers have set an ambitious goal of $20,000 this year.

“We know there is great need in our community for the services, and that’s why we are increasing our goal this year,” said Jeff Hefel, event chairperson and manager of the Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors’ Dubuque and Galena offices. “Of course, the event is a lot of fun and we love awarding our now famous seven-foot traveling trophy, but it’s really about the profound impact the funds have on local families in these difficult situations.”
