[Dubuque, Iowa] The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce has taken a formal position on the four Five Flags proposals provided by The Civic Center Advisory Commission tasked with reviewing the Five Flags feasibility study.  At the June Board meeting for the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, board members voted to support option four, the new and expanded facility and arena and look forward to conversations regarding project financing.

In addition to reviewing the proposal details, the board was provided a formal presentation by Leisure Services Manager for City of Dubuque, Marie Ware, and, via phone conference, HR Cook, General Manager of Five Flags Center, on the study findings and specific options. The fourth scenario includes a theater renovation and new arena construction. This option would expand the arena from 4,000 to 6,500-7,000 seats.

“The Chamber board has been considering a position on the proposals over the past month,” stated Chamber President Molly Grover. “The board believes that option four is an investment in the best interests of the greater good of our business community and long-term economic vitality of Dubuque.”

Enhancing our quality of life, creating additional retail, commerce, and economic development opportunities, stimulating existing business growth, ensuring a competitive regional environment, and increasing tourism and population growth were all cited as determining factors for the Chamber’s position.
