DUBUQUE, Iowa – In 1999, Interstate Employees Credit Union changed its name to Alliant Credit Union to align with utility company mergers and the name change of Interstate Power to Alliant Energy. In 2003, Chicago-based United Airlines Credit Union changed their name to “Alliant Credit Union.” In short, there are two credit unions using the name “Alliant” and it has caused confusion for members of both.
Meanwhile, our Dubuque-based Alliant Credit Union has continually evolved in the 89 years since our inception in 1933. We have welcomed over 50 select employee groups to our field of membership. Our Alliant Credit Union is now the largest closed field of membership credit union in Iowa.
Considering the confusion with the “other Alliant Credit Union,” and the growth of our credit union, our Board has made the decision to change the name of our credit union to ensure future growth and continue our focus on our members.
“We feel now is an opportune time to recognize our growth and the entirety of our diverse membership,” said Mike Moroney, president and CEO of Dubuque-based Alliant Credit Union.
Effective January 1, 2022, Alliant Credit Union will be AIM Credit Union.
“This is an evolution of our credit union and allows for future growth in all the segments we serve including: Alliant Energy, Industries, Medical professionals, labor unions, educators, and many other employee groups in Iowa and Wisconsin,” Moroney added.
The name change will not affect members and there is no action required on their part.
