[Dubuque, IA] — The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce will host five Tajikistan leaders participating in the Open World Program from April 8 – April 16, 2017. These leaders will explore businesses specializing in innovation and technology and will meet new area business owners. Managed by the independent Open World Leadership Center, Open World introduces rising leaders of emerging democracies to legislative functions essential to democracy. Open World maintains a network of leaders who have gained significant, firsthand exposure to America’s democratic, accountable government and free-market system. Funded almost entirely by the U.S. Congress, Open World links Members to their counterparts and is an instrument for Americans engaged in citizen diplomacy.

The visiting delegates are: Izzat Odinashoevich Dustmadov, System Administrator for the Branch of Republican Institute for Professional Development; Jamshed Nosirovich Sharapov, System Administrator at American Corners, U.S. Embassy; Maqsud Mirzohayotovich Khudonazarov, Information Technology Officer at The Ismaili Cultural Centre; Shodi Rashidbekov, Founder of Director of Tajsite Company; Shuhratullo Nematov, Website developer. Mahmud K. Naimov from Dushambe accompanies them as a facilitator.

In Dubuque, the Open World delegation is scheduled to visit attractions, such as the National Mississippi River Museum and Eagle Point Park and tour historic downtown Dubuque. They will also see innovative companies, such as Cartegraph regarding technology, the implications of social media through Fourge Social, and examine area start-ups, such as Envision Sports and soon to be open, 7Hills Brewery.

“The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce has now hosted The Open World Leadership delegates for four years. This year, being my first year involved, I hope to continue showcasing what Dubuque has to offer professionally while injecting tourism, as this will very likely be their only time visiting Dubuque, and quite possibly the United States,” said Scott Lovett, of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce.

Homestays will allow the Open World delegates to experience American family life.  They will also take part in several cultural and community activities, including taking a ride on the Fourth Street Elevator, hiking local trails and dinner with members of the Sister City Relationships Advisory Commission at Vinny Vanucchi’s.

Open World has introduced more than 26,000 current and future decision makers from Eurasia and other countries to American political and civic life, and to their American counterparts. Open World delegates range from first-time mayors to veteran journalists, from nonprofit directors to small-business advocates, and from political activists to judges at all levels.

Open World supports Congressional outreach to their counterparts abroad. It conducts exchanges that establish lasting professional relationships between the up-and-coming leaders of Open World countries and Americans dedicated to showcasing U.S. values and democratic institutions.  The U.S. Congress established Open World in 1999.
