CHILI COOK-OFF
A tri-state tradition, local business owners in the historic Fourth Street area host a Chili Cook-off in October. The downtown streets are jammed with folks who sample countless chili recipes, enjoy the crisp fall weather, and roam the quaint shops.
DUBUQUE AND ALL THAT JAZZ
This is live, outdoor music, one Fridaynight a month in June, July, August, and September, under the historic Town Clock in downtown Dubuque. Several thousand people gather (the streets are blocked off for pedestrians) to listen to the high-caliber bands, to dance, to mingle, and to enjoy the food and beverages supplied by local vendors. Dubuque Main Street, a downtown revitalization gorup, spearheads this wildly successful summer tradition, along with ohter local companies who act as event sponsors.

DubuqueFest/Very Special Arts is the all art extravaganza weekend held each May in Dubuque's historic downtown. This 25 year old tradition is sponsored by the Dubuque County Fine Arts Society. The Main Street area comes alive with music, art, dance, storytelling, old house tours (exploring Dubuque's historic homes), Dubuque Museum of Art displays, food and beverages.
JULY 4 CELEBRATIONS
We don't just celebrate on one day to mark our nation's indeprendence; we hav events for several days surrounding the Fourth of July holiday. The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra hosts its annual concert at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds, complete with fireworks, food, and children's games. The Dubuque Jaycees and local Radio Dubuque stations put on a spectacular fireworks display along the banks of the Mississippi on July 3. The "oohs" and "ahhs" of several thousand residents and visitors can be heard on that warm summer evening. People line the streets, the nearby bluffs, the river banks, and the waterways of the Mississippi to enjoy a beautifully executed show, set to patriotic music on local stations. Many families have picnics at beautiful Eagle Point Park.
REFLECTIONS IN THE PARK
A winter fundraising event for Hillcrest Family Services, this festival of lights is a wonderful drive-through display at Louis Murphy Park. From the warmth of your car, bus or trolley, you can view spectacular, larger-than-life holiday light displays. Open between Thanksgiving and New Year's.
TASTE OF DUBUQUE
Food is the focus at this August celebration. A large number of local restaurants and food vendors offer a plethora of palate pleasers at this afternoon/evening celebration for people of all ages. Fashioned after "Taste" celebrations in Chicago and Milwaukee, attendees can eat their way into culinary heaven, sampling the best that Dubuque has to offer. Live musical entertainment continues throughout this festival that is attended by thousands of Dubuquers.
WINTER GAMES
Thousands converge on Dubuque in the coldest of winter months to celebrate the beauty of the season. Dubuque has hosted the Iowa Winter Olympics for many years. A long list of indoor and outdoor sporting events are available for participation and watching as well.
