November 19, 2010 - November 21, 2010
Shalom Retreat Center, 1001 Davis St., Dubuque, IA Christian tradition has carried two “stories” about God. One story has told of human isolation from God because of a “Fall,” the “theological story” of Jesus who won access to God in heaven. The other story reminds us that “God” is an everywhere reality beyond all human concepts. Jesus is revealer of this Presence in which we live and move and have our being. The goal of prayer is to deepen our awareness of this Presence and to challenge us to give the best possible human expression to it. We will use the contemporary “story” about our universe to deepen awareness and appreciation of God’s universal presence, to reflect on the role of Jesus as revealer of this Presence always with us, and to examine the implications for prayer and liturgy.
