The Arthritis Foundation is seeking walkers to participate in the Dubuque Arthritis Walk on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Murphy Park with registration beginning at 8:00a.m. and the walk at 10:00a.m.

The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation’s signature event that takes place in communities nationwide to raise funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s number one cause of disability.

The event features both a three-mile and one-mile course, with activities for the entire family. Participants walk in honor of a friend or family member with arthritis, while those with arthritis wear blue hats to signify their action in taking control of their condition. In many areas, pet owners are invited to bring their leashed dogs to walk with them at the event.

Tree of Life Memorial Service
Washington Park, 7:30 p.m.

Hospice of Dubuque considers it an honor to host the annual Tree of Life Memorial Service, a tree-lighting service held to honor and remember loved ones—both living and deceased. The service, will include music, readings and the lighting of the Tree of Life.
Each light in the display symbolizes a donation made in honor, or in memory, of a loved one.

To ensure your loved ones name in the program, donations must reach the Hospice of Dubuque office no later than Friday, May 16. You may purchase a light with any size donation. When sending your donation, please specify that it is for the Tree of Life and in whose memory or honor the gift is being made. The lights will remain on the Tree of Life through the Memorial Day holiday.

In the event of rain, the Tree of Life service will be held in the lobby of the Dubuque Building (700 Locust Street, Formerly the CyCare Building.)

“The Journey”, a collection of artwork donated by a group of talented artists from the Dubuque area, will be unveiled May 22, at the Tree of Life Memorial Service. The collection will be displayed throughout the summer at area businesses in the tri-state area.
