Dubuque Idol Contest Rules

To Enter: No purchase necessary. The 2008 “Dubuque Idol Contest” will be held on Sunday June 15, 2008 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm in the McGraw Hill Parking lot located in the Port of Dubuque during the America’s River Festival. Interested individuals must register by calling the America’s River Festival office at 563.557.9200 ext. 224. Please leave a message that you are inquiring the Dubuque Idol contest by leaving your name, telephone number, and age.
The first 20 eligible entries will receive a telephone call from the America’s River Festival office stating a confirmation registration. If entrant does not receive a telephone call, entrant is not registered to participate and was not in the first 20 entries.
Contestants must be between the ages of 12-18 years old. Contestants are required to prepare two songs for the contest. Each contestant will have approximately 5 minutes to perform a solo, a capella (without music) audition.
The 20 chosen contestants will be asked to sign in a half hour before the start of the contest.
The contest will consist of two rounds. The first round will take place 12:00pm - 1:45pm. In the first round, the 20 contestants will perform their first song they have prepared. After a contestant has performed, there will be three judges who will then evaluate the performance with individual scoring sheets.
Each contestant will be judged on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest) in five different categories. The judges will base their scores from the following categories:

  • Vocal style and ability
  • Vocal Talent
  • Performance and Stage Presence
  • Knowing the Song
  • Judges overall impression

The decisions of the judges are final and will not be disputed.

After each contestant has performed their first song, the judges will add up their scores during a 10 minute break. The top five contestants with the highest cumulative scores will advance to the final round.

The chosen final five will be perform their second prepared song. The judges will be used to determine the Dubuque Idol winner and the Dubuque Idol Runner-up through crowd participation.

Each of the five finalists will be given a prize:

  • The Dubuque Idol Winner:
    		•  $150 in Chamber Dollars
  • The Dubuque Idol Runner-Up:
    		•  $100 in Chamber Dollars
  • The remaining finalists:
    		•  $50 in Chamber Dollars
